In Jammu and Kashmir, heavy rain and hailstorm hit Rajouri district yesterday trapping 10 families of a nomadic tribe on hills in the Thanamandi area. Local authorities said they have launched a major operation to rescue the families trapped in the higher reaches of the area.
Though there is no report of any human death, more than 110 small animals, mostly sheep and goats, were killed in the hailstorm and rain. Power infrastructure was also damaged in Rajdhani, Thanamandi and Manyal areas.
A major chunk of the road was also blocked due to natural calamity. Ten families of nomadic Bakkerwals on move to higher reaches were trapped wherein 110 sheep and goats were killed however no loss of human life or injury was reported.
A massive rescue operation was launched by authorities in the road in Manyal area while hectic efforts were made to clear debris in Rajdhani area where a cloudburst was reported. The road has been cleared and trapped nomads were also rescued. A girl was killed in a landslide incidence in Drahal area of the same district on Monday.
