Kerala: Death toll due to heavy rain, landslides reaches 22

26 people were killed in heavy rain and landslides as torrential rain continues to lash Kerala.

Massive landslides and floods have caused heavy damages across Kerala. The northern districts are the worst affected and red has been issued in these districts.

With water levels rising in various dams and reaching almost its maximum capacity, shutters of at least 24 reservoirs have been opened to drain out excess water, for the first time in the history of the state.

People residing on the banks of rivers are asked to be vigilant and move to safer places. Road transports in various districts are affected after many roads being washed away and some being submerged. High range roads in Idukki and Wayanad were damaged due to landslips and uprooting of trees, causing traffic blocks.

National Disaster Response Force and Army are actively engaged in rescue operations.
