Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for construction of 14.2 kilometre long Zojila Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
Talking to AIR, Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said, the main objective of the project is to provide all weather connectivity to strategically important Leh region in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said, this tunnel will be the Asia’s longest bi-directional road tunnel. The Minister said, the construction of this tunnel will provide all weather connectivity between Srinagar, Kargil and Leh and will bring about all round economic and socio-cultural integration of these regions.
Mr Gadkari said, this tunnel will change the life of the people of Ladakh and Leh region. He also said, for the security point of view this tunnel is also very important.
